These flowers grow on a French mountainside. Anyone know what they are? I took them on our holiday last year in the Vosges.

Keep in mine my knowledge is extremely limited when it comes to plants and flowers...but it resembles a flower that a friend refered to as Japanese Lanterns, but I don't think that is what you have exactly.

Fairly certain it's a bladder campion, Silene vulgaris. Here's a link: http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Gorge/2583/3.html , and of course a google search will get you more info. I have the similar white campion growing near my home; it's one of the wild plants featured in my quilt "The Cul-de-Sac". Nice photo!

Sure does look like Selene Vulgaris---funny i thought "oh we have that in Canada too" but apparently it's an "introduced" species--ya gotta wonder how it got across the Atlantic...
