"I'm sure it says so in our history book." A Thrilling Term at Janeways by Elinor M Brent Dyer. (She's most famous for her 62-book series about the Chalet School). Yes, I'm a big fan of vintage girls' school stories (lots of them are out of print which makes it fun searching for them). Girls Gone By Publishers are reprinting lots of them - I got this book from them this week and am losing no time in reading it.
